Lakes near the cabin: Woodland, Rainbow, and a Fool Hollow side trip

People searching for a cabin near Woodland Lake or Rainbow Lake in Pinetop usually want two things: cold water in the pines, and an honest drive time. Peaceful Pines is a neighborhood cabin in Pinetop Lakes Country Club, not a lakefront house and not on a private lake. The good news is you do not need a dock to have a lake morning — Woodland is typically about 10 minutes from the porch; Rainbow is typically about 15 minutes.

Drive times from Peaceful Pines

Times below are typical, not guaranteed. A Friday event, a winter storm, or simply choosing a farther public access can add minutes. We would rather give ranges than invent a door-to-ramp stopwatch.

  • Typically about 10 minutes

    Woodland Lake Park

The closest “lake morning” from Peaceful Pines. Woodland is a town park lake with shoreline paths, picnic spots, and easy fishing access — the loop people walk after coffee. It is in Pinetop-Lakeside, not a remote reservoir. Good for families, an easy first paddle if you bring or rent a kayak, and a low-key sunset stop.

  • Typically about 15 minutes

    Rainbow Lake

The other in-town water. Rainbow is known for stocked trout and small-boat / electric-motor / paddle traffic more than big wakes. Public access is more limited than a state-park shoreline — use the public spots, not private docks. Pair it with Woodland if you want two short lake looks in one morning.

  • Typically about 35–40 minutes

    Fool Hollow Lake (Show Low)

A larger recreation-area lake west of town — worth a dedicated morning, not a “we’re already there” claim. Fool Hollow sits in Show Low, not in Pinetop. Facilities, entrance rules, and any seasonal rentals are the park’s, not ours. We mention it as a side trip when you want more water than the in-town lakes.

Kayaks — what we actually offer

Paddle nearby lakes — request when you book and we’ll confirm availability for your dates. That sentence is the whole product: a requested extra, confirmed per stay, not a hidden fleet we pretend is “included with every booking.”

If we cannot cover your dates, you can still paddle — bring your own, or check seasonal rentals at larger recreation areas. Either way, you will launch at a public lake, then come home to the cabin. We also offer bicycle rental and food stocking on the same ask-and-confirm basis; see extras on the cabin page.

Best windows: calm mornings before wind or monsoon build, and shoulder seasons when the water is quiet. Check Arizona Game & Fish rules if you fish. Life jackets are not optional just because the lakes look small.

What this cabin is not

Peaceful Pines is not lakefront. You will not walk from the bedroom to a private slip. You will not find a community lake key on the counter. The “Lakes” in Pinetop Lakes Country Club is the neighborhood name, not a shoreline easement.

The cabin is also no-pets. Some public shores allow leashed dogs; that is the park’s rule, not a cabin amenity, and it does not mean you can bring a pet to the house. If a listing photo of a lake looks like the backyard, it is not this property.

Pair lakes with the rest of the trip

A lake morning plus a town lunch plus a porch evening is the usual rhythm. For named trails and typical drives from the cabin, use hiking from the cabin. For the broader menu — golf, Sunrise, dining — use things to do in Pinetop-Lakeside. For when to come, the summer, spring, fall, and winter guides change the water (and whether you want a kayak at all).

Lakes FAQ

  • Is Peaceful Pines a lakefront cabin?

No. The cabin is in the Pinetop Lakes Country Club neighborhood — a pine street, not a shoreline. Woodland Lake Park is typically about 10 minutes; Rainbow Lake is typically about 15 minutes, depending on traffic and which access you use.

  • Can I kayak from the cabin?

Kayaking is a nearby-lake activity, not a dock-out-the-back-door one. Ask about our kayak extra when you book and we will confirm availability and pricing for your dates — it is not a guaranteed house amenity sitting in the garage.

  • Are the lakes pet-friendly, and can I bring a dog to the cabin?

The cabin is no-pets. Public lake parks set their own animal rules; even if a shoreline allows leashed dogs, that is not a Peaceful Pines amenity and does not change the house policy.

  • How far is Fool Hollow Lake?

Fool Hollow Lake Recreation Area is a Show Low side trip — typically about 35–40 minutes from the cabin, not inside Pinetop-Lakeside. Go for a bigger lake morning; come back to the pines for the night.
